She majored in Journalism at Western Kentucky University but because of her travels throughout Europe she gained an appreciation for Art encouraging her to get a degree in Art History. With such a unique background , I can’t wait to dive in and know more about her. So shall we….
What does Travel mean to you?
Travel, to me, means taking a step back from everyday life and just enjoying the place (s) I am getting to experience.
What is the inspiration behind it?
The inspiration behind wanting to travel is from my first trip overseas to Ireland many years ago. Getting to experience another country was amazing and inspired me to continue traveling and getting to see as many places overseas as I could.
Name 3 things you can’t travel without?
Cellphone since I can use viber and oovoo for free, access wi-fi and keep my phone on airplane mode the entire time so I don’t accrue outrageous charges when I get back home, journal for writing down my thoughts each day and good walking/running shoes since I walk 5+ miles a day.
Wow 5+ miles a day… very impressive….What do you think has been the biggest thing you’ve learned while traveling?
I would have to say the biggest thing I learned about myself is that I can travel by myself and be o.k. with it. If you knew me, you would know I am a bit on the shy side so people were amazed when I took a backpacking trip through Europe for three months by myself. It gave me the chance to step out of my comfort zone and force myself to get out there and meet people. I met so many people and hung out with some of the coolest people during my travels. Don’t think that would have happened as much if I were traveling with someone.
Your top 3 destination experiences you’ve ever stayed to date and why?
There are so many destinations that I am not sure I can stop at 3 but I will try. Cesky Krumlov in Czech Republic because I loved the small town feel to it, Paris because what can you say about the City of Light that hasn’t already been said before but it would be because of the food and of course seeing the Sacre Couer which is my favorite place in all of Paris and last but not least would probably be Dublin which I wasn’t crazy about the first time around because Dublin is not a place to drive through but a place to park your car and walk everwhere in order to trulyenjoy the city.
Have you got lost whilst travelling? What happened?
I got lost in London when I was trying to get to Bayswater. I ended up getting off at the wrong stop but luckily I wasn’t afraid to ask someone directions since it seemed I got off the metro too early so I got back on and made my way to the right place.Another time was when I was in Amsterdam and I got turned around when I was on the train but again I kept my cool, worked through it and made it back to where I started.
What’s your most practical tip for travelers?
Not sure if this is exactly a tip but I would say don’t be afraid to take a chance and go out there and experience life, experience seeing other countries and stepping out further than your own city and/or country.
Who plays you in the movie about your life?
If I had my choice, I would say Kim Delaney from ‘Army Wives’ I have been a fan of hers’ since her time on ‘All My Children’ as Jenny Gardner Nelson. She can play a wide range of emotions and isn’t the type of actress who can only do one type of role and she does drama well.
Finish this sentence: The funniest thing that’s ever happened to me while traveling is… ……
Probably finding out I was staying in a co-ed room when I was in London. I was on the bed and in walks a guy and I am thinking, I didn’t know guys were staying in the room too. LOL. Ended up hanging out with him the next day when we went sightseeing through London…..
Now that is funny… I hope it was a nice surprise for you .Lets move to our lightning round ….This or that
- Books or Listening to music? Both when traveling
- Planned itinerary or just wing it? Both but if it is a short trip then itinerary, if trip is a couple months or long then I tend to plan the first few days and then wing it the rest of the time
- Solo or group travel? Definitely solo because it enables you to get out there and meet people you might not have met if you were traveling with a group
- Cruise Trip or Backpacking? Hands down – backpacking all the way
- Winter Vacation or Summer vacation? Summer vacation because I love to walk wherever I go and winter would be too cold for me to want to leave my room
